Introduction
In this blog post, I'll guide you through the step-by-step process, to install Ubuntu in VirtualBox. For this guide I'm using windows operating system.
Definitions and Tools
Virtualization is the process of creating a virtual version of something, such as a virtual hardware platform, operating system, storage device, or network resources. It allows multiple operating systems to run on a single physical machine.
VirtualBox is a free and open-source hosted hypervisor for x86 virtualization, developed by Oracle Corporation. Using it developers and system administrators can run multiple operating systems on a single machine.
Ubuntu is a free and open-source Linux operating system distribution based on Debian. It's one of the most popular Linux distributions and is widely used for development and testing purposes.
Prerequisites
Before you begin the installation process, ensure you have checked the following Prerequisites and have installed the following softwares:
- System Requirements: Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements to run VirtualBox and Ubuntu. A computer with a compatible processor (Intel or AMD) that supports hardware virtualization (Intel VT-x or AMD-V). At least 4GB of RAM (8GB or more recommended for a smoother experience). Sufficient hard disk space (at least 25GB for a basic Ubuntu installation, plus additional space for your files and applications).
- VirtualBox: Download and install the latest version of VirtualBox from the official website.
- Ubuntu ISO: Download the latest version of Ubuntu Desktop from the official website.

button.Enter a name for your virtual machine, select the folder hosting the virtual machine and the ISO image file to be attached to the virtual machine.
Check the
Skip unintended disk
option and click onNext
.Allocate memory and the number of processors to the virtual machine. The recommended memory size is 2048MB (2GB).
Allocate the size of the virtual hard disk. The recommended size is 25GB. Then click
Next
.Click on
Finish
to create the virtual machine.
Step 2: Install Ubuntu
Start the virtual machine by clicking on the
Start
button.Follow the on-screen instructions to install Ubuntu on the virtual machine.
Once the installation is complete, restart the virtual machine.
